"Zen" is often associated with Buddhism, a popular religion is some parts of the world. The central practice in this religion is about seeking a state of mind through meditation. When this state of mind is achieved, your sense of self disappears, and you essentially achieve "empty mind". If your mind is empty, your intuition and insight can communicate directly with you... without all the usual noise it must contend with such as worries about managing your many obligations. Creative ideas flow like a great river.
Now, you don't need religious practice to experience this state of mind... in fact we all have at one time or another. There are times when your mind is in a state of utter confusion... in those moments, you are getting a glance at what Zen in all about. Some poems and artwork can actually trigger a Zen response by presenting conflicting ideas in a synergistic fashion, taking you by surprise, or by presenting a scene with powerful emotional impact. Its as if you were striding along thoughtfully, and then suddenly you realize you walked off a cliff... and for some reason you are not falling. In that moment you have Zen as you struggle to make sense of things. If you work at it, you can lengthen your time in the "Zen zone" by letting go and just experiencing the imagery the art inspires. I find that doing this leaves me in an exceedingly good mood.
Today I wanted to highlight a few artists that seem to be quite good at putting the viewer in a Zen-like state. Take your time, you may find yourself inspired to create something.
Comments on the artwork should be directed to the original artists
What is a "Thought Sketch"?
It is simply a short concise poem that conveys a single mood or idea. It is usually inspired by artwork, and can be either taken as stand alone work or in tangent with the artwork it complements. It can also be a starting point for more complex ideas.

Stolen Artwork? Please read.
Hey folks. I was recently made aware of a website that apparently sells artwork "stolen" from artists here on deviant art. As it turns out, this website is in reality a scam targeting artists and creative people. Please go to the journal below from PaperDreamerArt (https://www.deviantart.com/paperdreamerart) ~PaperDreamerArt (https://www.deviantart.com/paperdreamerart) for more information and some steps you can take to remove this blight from the digital domain.

Inspired through Distraction
This week I realized that I wrote nothing down.
My morning ritual usually includes managing the 2 or 3 light orange post-it notes stuck to my desk, just off center so they are always visible. They are the next 2 weeks, roughly, of urgent activities. I review and revise them daily and determine what is important and requires immediate attention. I have a compulsion to stay organized... mostly because I can remember nothing.
This week around Friday I realized I had not even looked at the post-it notes... checked off completed tasks, added new... nothing. What struck me is that I was not even aware of it. So, for roughly 4 days my mind wa

Hello folks, now that summer is nearing an end, I find myself with a bit more time for things like contests. I entered the contest "Feelings" put on by Understood-Accepted (https://www.deviantart.com/understood-accepted) with my piece Blinding Heart. The contest is in the voting phase where anyone can vote on my piece. If you like the piece, please vote here >> http://understood-accepted.deviantart.com/journal/poll/5422439/

Here... but not.
Hey folks! My usual output is going to be somewhat abated for a while... the reason: summer. Family weaves in and out of the days occupying my mind with barbecue management and giving me less time for creative pursuits. I have many poem sketches in process and a few collabs also ( another with InberArt (https://www.deviantart.com/inberart) in the works :) )... next week I'm in Texas for work, then home for a week, then off to Ithaca... so, all is good here, no worries. I expect that once school kicks in again in September and things settle down I will be looking forward to getting these things out of my head and on (virtual) paper.
