Literature Text

Martha the mermaid
was bitter and fierce;
her temper was legend,
her shrieking would pierce.
Her jabs kept on jabbing,
her stabs led to tears.

Martha the mermaid
was scowling one day.
The other merfolk
said, "You cannot stay!!"
So she went for a swim
in search of new prey.

Martha the mermaid
discovered a place,
twas peaceful and calm;
No strife, not a trace!
She charged up her fury
and donned her mean face.

Martha the mermaid
hand chopped all the plants!
She poked the cucumbers
and stoked her best rants!
The jellyfish scattered
and soiled their pants.

Martha the mermaid
was proud of her mess.
The dirt was unsettled,
the reef in distress.
But wait! there was one
who frowned in excess.

The fish glared at Martha,
displeased with her show.
His anger, it boiled.
His fed-up, it glowed.
Great chunks of coral
collapsed from his throes.

Martha the Mermaid
was duly impressed!
She found her true equal
in spreading duress.
She smiled and she waved
and then she addressed:

"Never have I seen
so many things bend,
hard things made brittle,
and fixed things un-mend.
Would you like to be
my miserable friend?"

The fish seemed relieved
at Martha's request;
for being unruly
is what he did best.
Nodding, accepted
her friendly behest.

Martha the Mermaid,
her cohort at hand,
swam off together,
with miserable plans.
One for the kids! Inspired by >> Catfish by AniaMohrbacher

A great illustration... the frowning fish led me to think up a story about Martha and an interesting friendship.

Lol despite the theme this is an adorably written piece.
